Infocast Announces Much Anticipated 2nd Ballast Water Management Summit
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) December 23, 2014 -- Infocast, the leading business intelligence and networking events producer in the maritime industry, has announced the 2nd Ballast Water Management Summit, scheduled February 3-5, 2015 on The Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA.
The US Coast Guard’s (USCG) Ballast Water Management (BWM) systems regulations will begin to be enforced in 2015, and the IMO BWM Treaty is expected to be ratified early in 2015. With both of these sets of parallel standards about to be imminently enforced — all existing ships will need to be retrofitted with a compliant certified BWM system within approximately 5 years, while all new ship builds moving forward will need to have standards compliant BWM systems. The estimated cost of BWM systems installations will range from $200K — $5M per ship, costing up to $40 billion dollars in BWM retrofits alone.
Infocast has launched the 2nd Ballast Water Management Summit to provide a forum where new important BWM standards and regulations related to ballast water treatment, discharge, and mandatory compliance timelines will be explained by the regulatory bodies driving these changes. Speakers from the US Coast Guard, US EPA, California State Lands Commission, IMO, FEDNAV Limited, Matson Inc., American Presidents Line, The Maritime Alliance, World Shipping Council, Chamber of Shipping of America, along with many more, will be on-hand to discuss a variety of topics including cost-effective and practical solutions for BMW system compliance.
Attendees have the opportunity to connect and network with regulators, ship owners and operators, shipbuilders, water treatment specialists, marine equipment suppliers, port authorities, shipping/maritime associations and others at the summit. As an additional feature, Infocast has created the Ballast Water Treatment Technology Advances Pre-Summit Briefing which will begin the conference and dig deeper into new technological advancements and innovations in ballast water treatment, disinfection, monitoring, testing and retrofit installations.
