Washington, DC Area Hotels Come Together to Collect Toys for Tots
Tysons, VA (PRWEB) December 23, 2014 -- With the holidays just days away, Washington, DC area hotels have come together to help local children in need. Fifteen hotels including major brands such as Hyatt, Hilton, Westin, Sheraton, Radisson, Wingate and Best Western have worked hard to help see that children in the area have a toys this holiday season. Over 1,300 toys were collected for Washington, DC area children.
All fifteen hotels are managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts, who manages over 90 hotels throughout North America. “As our company continues to grow in the Washington, DC area, we feel it’s important to give back to our local community,” said Tim Bowes, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Crescent Hotels. “Being in the hospitality industry, our teams truly love to serve others and we regularly look for ways to contribute to our community. We recently recognized the great need to provide children in the Washington, DC area a more joyful holiday season and decided to launch our first campaign of many years to follow in assisting Toys for Tots to close the void.”
“The armed forces do so much for us every day, we wanted to align our resources to help them with such a worthy cause,” added Bowes. “We couldn’t be prouder to see so many of our guests and associates purchase toys and donate them. “We felt the mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, to assist the US Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas, really spoke to us.”
Other Foundation support includes providing administrative, advisory, financial, logistic and promotional support to local Toys for Tots Coordinators as well providing other support the Marine Corps, as a federal agency, cannot provide; and conducting public education and information programs about Toys for Tots that call the general public to action in support of this patriotic community action program.
“It is remarkable to see how our guests have contributed as well, we have the best guests in the city,” said Mike Chouri, General Manager of the Sheraton Tysons Hotel. “They come back to the hotel after a long day of work or play with hands full of toys for our bins. We have also reached out to our clients and they have been extremely responsive. It’s very touching to see clients take time out of their busy schedules to bring over toys.”
Even new hotels participated in the toy drive. “As a new hotel, we were not sure how many toys we were going to collect this year,” said Stacy Smith, General Manager of the Hyatt Place Washington DC/ US Capitol which open last June in the booming NOMA District (North of Massachusetts Avenue). “We couldn’t be happier to see the toys coming in one after the other. We collected over 160 toys! This is even more than we had hoped to see.”
