CMD Announces Atlanta Youth Shelter as 2015 AEC Cares Project
ATLANTA, GA (PRWEB) January 05, 2015 -- CMD, one of the leading providers of construction information in North America, AIA and Hanley Wood Media today announced a partnership with Children’s Restoration Network (CRN) and Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed’s office to revitalize the Covenant House of Georgia (CHGA) for AEC Cares’ fifth annual “blitz build.” This year’s build, titled projectAtlanta, will unite construction professionals from around the country to renovate the inner-city Atlanta shelter on May 13, 2015, one day prior to the AIA National Convention at the Georgia World Congress Center.
A crisis shelter for homeless and trafficked youth, the Covenant House opened its doors in 2000. Since that time, more than 15,000 youth have received support from the non-profit organization under the guiding principle of unconditional love and 24 hour care.
“The Covenant House is ideal for AEC Cares’ annual project,” said Graeme McCracken, CEO of CMD, and board president, AEC Cares. “Working with Mayor Reed’s office, CRN, AIA, Hanley Wood Media and an incredible group of volunteers, we will be able to update and modernize the CHGA so youth can continue to live in a safe environment.”
CMD, AIA and Hanley Wood Media have joined forces the past five years, during AEC Cares’ annual build, to raise awareness and provide community support for worthwhile projects across the United States. In 2011, these groups collaborated to rebuild five homes devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Subsequent projects included revitalizing houses for homeless teens in Washington D.C. and renovating facilities for homeless, disabled veterans and adults in Denver. The most recent project involved transforming a 30-year-old former school building into a cheerful up-to-date daycare and early learning center for impoverished children in Chicago’s Southwest Side.
“We’re incredibly thankful to be selected for AEC Cares’ annual project,” said John Riddall, board chair, CHGA. “AEC Cares has a lasting, positive impact on every project it undertakes and we look forward to the improvements planned for the Covenant House of Georgia.”
