The North America Office of Duesseldorf Tourism and Duesseldorf Airport announce: Fourth Annual Duesseldorf Photo Weekend: 01/30 – 02/01/2015
Düsseldorf, Germany (PRWEB) December 29, 2014 -- Artistic photography is the focus of a citywide art event that unites many of Düsseldorf’s art institutions and galleries into a showcase of talent and names associated with Düsseldorf’s extensive photography scene. No fewer than 40 venues (14 in 2014) will participate in 2015 with exhibits and related events from Friday, January 30 – Sunday, February 1 – with many exhibits staying open through March and April 2015.
The weekend is opened by an exhibit at the museum “NRW-Forum” with a collection by the German Stock Exchange (Deutsche Boerse AG) on Thursday, January 29 – an exhibit that focuses on the relationship between humans and nature – exploring both the way that humans shape nature and the way that these new environments shape humans. Included are works by Paul Almasy, Mike Brodie, John Davies, Axel Hütte, Vivian Maier, Simon Norfolk, Sebastião Salgado and Gunnar Smoliansky.
Opening at the same time, the exhibit “NeoRalismo – The New Image in Italy 1932-1960” highlights the relationship between photography and other fields of artistic expression, such as cinema and literature.
Other weekend highlights include:
An exhibit at Museum Kunstpalast of portraits of international artists by Maren Heyne, a Munich-born photographer living in Düsseldorf since 1963. A second exhibit at Museum Kunstpalast shows pieces by New York-based artist Vera Lutter. Lutter works primarily with a Camera Obscure, creating unique black-and-white images of architecture and landscape. An ongoing exhibit at the gallery “Julia Stoschek Collection” is also included in the weekend. The exhibit titled “Number Nine: Elizabeth Price” features digital moving images by the British artist and winner of the Turner Prize.
A series of related events supplements the weekend’s exhibits, including the annual public event titled “Portfolio Review” (Saturday, February 1, from 12:00 noon – 8:00 PM at NRW-Forum) where 15 emerging photographers present their work to an international panel of renowned photography professionals.
All participating galleries will be open on Friday, January 30, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM.
