Pueblo, CO (PRWEB) February 18, 2014

With 2014 marking the 50th anniversary of Time magazine’s naming of Martin Luther King Jr. as its Man of the Year, author Janis Baker felt it was the perfect time to release her new novel, “Crashing into the Third Heaven: A Thorn in the Flesh” (published by WestBow Press).

Crashing into the Third Heaven” takes readers back to 1954-1963, showing life through the eyes of two 10-year-old girls. Readers will follow Erin O’Hara and Lily McCarey, as they become close friends with Salvie Baldwin, a 14-year-old black girl who teaches them about the 1954 case of Brown v. Board of Education, the Civil Rights Movement and the courage and power of faith.

What follows is a journey that will teach the girls about equality, friendship and the courage one can derive from God. With the Civil Rights Movement acting as a frame, readers will watch as the girls are transformed into powerful women, who stay true to their promises and beliefs despite all opposing forces.

Baker hopes readers will leave the text with an understanding of “the magnitude of forgiveness.”
