After Surprising First Round NFL Draft Picks, Ticket Demand Could Spike: HeadlineTickets.com Has the Solution
Pittsburgh PA (PRWEB) May 09, 2014 -- Inside a packed Radio City Music Hall in New York, America's football franchises announced their first picks while the nation held its collective breath. Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, started the first round of this year's NFL Draft when he took the podium and announced that the Houston Texans would be first team to make its picks. For months analysts have speculated that Houston might choose to trade the top spot, but Houston went ahead with the pick. From that point the mock drafts became obsolete as a round of surprise picks and shocking falls shook the hall.
While the night did indeed hold some unexpected moves, Houston's first pick came as no real surprise when the Texans snatched up highly-ranked defensive end, Jadeveon Clowney out of South Carolina. Next, the St. Louis Rams also played it safe with its selection of offensive tackle Greg Robinson, but after that, the evening became peppered with a good deal of surprising picks and falls.
The most notable and surprising turn of events occurred throughout the evening as team after team skipped over Texas A&M quarterback, Johnny Manziel (or Johnny Football). Manziel was the first freshman ever to win the coveted Heisman Trophy and was predicted to be among the top ten picks. The quarterback remained stoic as he sat through the other picks until the Cleveland Browns finally selected him in the 22nd pick of the night.
Other highlights of the NFL Draft include the Jacksonville Jaguars hocking selection of quarterback Blake Bortles and the Buffalo Bills surprising decision to pass on the No. 9 overall pick and their first-round pick, to hold out for wide receiver Sammy Watkins in the No. 4 pick. The Dolphins also made what many consider a shocking choice when they grabbed offensive tackle Ja’Waun James in the 19th overall selection.
Along with the unexpected picks came shocking falls as a number of talented football players remained unselected on the NFL Draft board throughout the event. Those left up for grabs include wide receivers Allen Robinson, Davante Adams and Jordan Matthews as well as quarterback Derek Carr and running backs Carlos Hyde and Bishop Sankey.
It will be interesting to see how these first round NFL draft picks impact this fall's football season, which is expected to outsell last season. The best opportunity to score tickets to football games usually falls within a few days of the NFL Draft, and HeadlineTickets.com has a full inventory of season tickets as well as tickets for individual games.
