According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation Poll taken between May 29 and June 1, 2014, only an approximate 1 of 3 Americans believe that that their children will be better off than they are. In light of this, articles from news outlets like The Washington Post and CNN wondered if the American Dream is dead or out of reach. Irena Ambrozewicz Taylor’s autobiography titled “American Dream” (published by Xlibris) shares her own experience of life in America, her living the American Dream, to show that life in America is still the best.

An excerpt from the book reads:
The Communist Party members were guaranteed to have the most luxurious houses and high pay. My father especially being a private landowner, most of his life could not accept this system, so he was very frustrated with the government officials. Any chance he got he would curse them calling them thieves and bandits. My father was one of the first men ready to go when he heard the news that he could leave.

And leave they did. They immigrated to America to enjoy the wonderful opportunities and the chance for very interesting life. Landing in New York without any knowledge of English, Taylor first worked as a governess, but that was not enough for her. She finally landed a glamorous job at Pan Am airlines as a stewardess where she got to travel the world, meet interesting people like the prince of Saudi Arabia and explore wonderful places. Finally, she found her love in San Francisco.

“Through positive attitude and determination, you can achieve any goal you set for yourself,” says Taylor, “Americans should not take things for granted, but be part of this free, joyful life.” Hers is an encouraging tale that shows how setting goals and dreaming big could take one far in life. It shows how the American Dream is alive if one really works at it.
