Illinois leads the nation in the number of competitors in the final round of Cyber Aces State Championship, hosted by the National Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA), on March 1st at Moraine Valley Community College, Palos Hills, IL.
This exciting event is designed to identify individuals with the skills to excel in the high demand and critical field of cybersecurity and is part of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn’s agenda to grow the economy, increase public safety and help Veterans, students and career changers enter the growing cyber workforce. The Defense Department’s Cyber Command plans to increase its workforce from 900 to 4,000.
“We are reminded every day of the critical importance cybersecurity jobs have in the public and private sector. These positions are in demand, pay extremely well, and are recession proof,” Illinois Department of Employment Security Director Jay Rowell said. “This Cyber Aces State Championship is a unique way to identify talent.”
Cyber Aces is a competition using NetWars, an elite, hands-on, interactive learning environment with a focus on skills information security professionals use in their jobs every day. NetWars covers topics including digital forensics, vulnerability assessment, packet analysis, and system hardening. NetWars includes basic levels that enable young people to demonstrate the intelligence to excel and provides them with a real-world environment to demonstrate their skills.
“Cyber Aces is an important initiative,” stated Dr. John Sands at Moraine Valley Community College, “Our country is facing a major challenge identifying and recruiting talented individuals for the critical job of protecting the economy and information infrastructure.”
The Cyber Aces Championship on March 1st at Moraine Valley is a combination of competition, learning, networking and celebration. The top competitors have the opportunity to meet other stand-out cyber talent in Illinois, network with information security experts, meet potential employers and learn from an elite security competition. The performers compete for supreme honors, prizes and scholarships.
The Cyber Aces Foundation is a not-for-profit working to discover talent and provide a pathway to employment in critical cybersecurity jobs.
