NAPW Announces Phyllis J. Roberts, Professor of Contract Management at the Defense Acquisition University, South Region, as VIP Woman of the Year

Roberts as a 2013/2014 Professional Woman of the Year for leadership with this prestigious distinction. “As a professor of contract management at the http://www.dau.mil Defense Acquisition University, my key responsibility is to train the Department of Defense acquisition, technology and logistics workforce in negotiating and pricing contracts,” says Ms. Roberts. She is proud of the fact that while working as a civilian in the United States government for more than 30 years, she has been instrumental in supporting the military.
Ms. Roberts honed her skills when she previously worked as a public school educator and negotiator. Eventually, she made a significant career change and took on the role of negotiator for the U.S. Air Force. During her tenure, she has successfully negotiated contracts for the air force, as well as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
At the Defense Acquisition University, Ms. Roberts teaches a myriad of classes that focus on contracting, specifically, negotiations of supplies and services. Classes she teaches include CON 170, Fundamentals of Cost & Price Analysis; CON 280, Source Selection and Administration of Service Contracts and CON 290, Contract Administration and Negotiation Techniques in a Supply Environment. “I also mentor college students and recent college grads to improve their interviewing and negotiation skills,” she adds.
