Next Wave of Digital Health Innovation Shifts the Focus to “Health”
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 17, 2014 -- The Digital Health ecosystem has seen some remarkable and fast-paced innovation. New technologies that do everything from monitoring ongoing body biometrics, to creating remote telemedicine visits, to electronic access to patient information to 3D body scans, will continue to reshape the face of 21st century healthcare. What is in store for the next wave of innovation? A shift to the “Health” part of the equation, and as the building blocks of new technology mature, a focus on patient-centric implementations.
At this year’s Digital Health Summer Summit, three of the leading healthcare delivery systems, UCSF, Dignity Health and Kaiser Permanente, are convening for a rare Super Session on Friday, June 20, to discuss the importance of frontline innovation as well as showcase this next generation of digital innovation designed to drive healthcare forward.
“All eyes have been on wearable devices that help patients monitor their well-being and encourage a healthier lifestyle,” said Jill Gilbert, producer, Digital Health Summer Summit. "However, when a patient's health or even life is at stake, the solution is more complex than simply deploying the latest piece of hardware."
The presentations will include both frameworks and hands-on demonstrations of products such as MS Bioscreen, (UCSF) an app which accesses and integrates medical records with the latest population-based data, making it possible to chart a unique course of multiple sclerosis treatment and deliver precise medicine. The showcase will look at Kaiser Permanente’s work with gamification, and how video games are helping improve doctor, nurse and patient communication and follow through, as well as make patient care more safe and effective by recreating real-world hospital situations. Dignity Health will offer a peek at CareCheck, a tool that identifies and eliminates diagnostic variability.
“As frontline innovators we are uniquely positioned to identify needs and conceptualize solutions, but we also appreciate the strengths of industry startups,” said Dr. Aenor Sawyer, Assoc. Director, Center for Digital Health Innovation, UCSF. “We often find partnering to be the most efficient model to complete development and scale beyond our institution.”
