Self-esteem is defined by kidshealth.org as how much a person values himself or himself. The same website describes healthy self-esteem as a child’s armor against the challenges of the world. First time author Valerie Miele knows the important role that parents have in the development of their child’s self-esteem. She recently released “Milky's Way at the Zoo” (published by Xlibris), a delightful story filled with meaningful lessons about self-acceptance.

The story follows the title character, Milky, a snow-white kitten who goes to the zoo. During her trip there, Milky discovers the importance of loving herself just the way she is.

As a mother, Miele wanted to write a book that will not only captivate the imagination of young readers but also give them something to think about, particularly on the subject of loving and accepting themselves.

“My past experiences inspired the lesson behind this book because I have struggled with body image issues and loving myself for a while now,” the mother of one says, “I did not want my son or other children to grow up feeling the same way so I wrote this book to show them that being yourself and being just the way you are is good.”

Accompanied by beautiful, fully-colored illustrations, “Milky's Way at the Zoo” is a treasury of timeless lessons that both children and grownups can learn from.
