Robert Weiss, LCSW, CSAT-S, author, clinician, founder of the Sexual Recovery Institute, and Senior Vice President of Clinical Development for Elements Behavioral Health, will speak at the 9th Annual Symposium of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). This year’s symposium will be held from February 20 to 22 at Embassy Suites Paradise Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Mr. Weiss will be joined by Jennifer Schneider, MD, in hosting a Lunch and Learn event on Feb. 20, from 12:15 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Titled “Closer Together, Further Apart: The Effect of Technology and the Internet on Sex, Intimacy and Relationships,” the event will provide a thought-provoking look at the ways digital technology affects clinical practice and real-world social engagement among individuals, couples and families. Each participant will receive a complimentary, autographed copy of the speakers’ recently released book by the same title.

Later that day, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Mr. Weiss will present “Using the SDI 4.0 in Groups.” The Sexual Dependency Inventory has proven invaluable to clinicians in assessing and diagnosing problematic sexual behavior. Although this assessment tool can be utilized in a number of formats, Mr. Weiss will offer insights into its use in group settings.

On February 21, from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m., Mr. Weiss will join Stefanie Carnes and Gary Wilson on an expert panel discussing “Points and Counterpoints: The Addiction Model Under Fire.” Other experts from the Elements Behavioral Health family of programs will also present at the IITAP symposium that day, including Jack Kuo, MD, one of Promises Treatment Centers’ affiliated psychiatrists, who will provide an update on video game addiction from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and Sharon O’Hara, the clinical director at The Sexual Recovery Institute, who will discuss “How to Talk to Your Clients About 12-Step Meetings” from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
