National Society of Leadership and Success Survey Identifies Success Factors for College Students Securing 2014 Summer Interns
Hoboken, NJ (PRWEB) May 12, 2014 -- Results from a survey of college seniors showed that deliberate, on-going networking, even as freshmen, was the most important success factor to securing internships. The students also pointed to intangibles associated with self-confidence and professionalism in interviewing as critical factors in the process.
The online poll in late April generated survey responses from 171 student leaders in the National Society of Leadership and Success who have landed internships for this summer.
When asked to provide input on the “Key to success as you secured the internship position,” students shared stories and comments including:
“I presented my portfolio in a clear, concise manner.”
“I wrote a killer resume and delivered my credentials in-person to avoid getting lost in the crowd online.”
“I networked with decision-makers and I showed a sincere willingness to learn.”
“My success factor was the confidence and belief that I’m worth more than just a simple academic standard.”
“I used relevant work experience to market myself, and I sold it during my interview.”
“This survey generated responses from students who have landed impressive internships at large, established companies and up-and-coming startups,” said Charles Knippen, president of the National Society of Leadership and Success. “We were delighted to see students from our Society demonstrate skills that matched the hiring criteria for challenging internships across the country.”
