Calgary, Canada (PRWEB) October 03, 2014 -- There was a time when author Connie Ruben was at the airport and a crying lady sat down beside her. The lady’s father had just been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and she was terrified as to what steps to take. She was really scared and Connie spent the next couple of hours talking to the lady about her own experiences with her mother-in-law, Grace. It was at that moment that she decided to write a book on her experience in order to provide real-life help to people like that airport lady. “The Stages of Grace” (published by Xlibris) examines the challenges and joys of being the primary caregiver for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease beginning with the initial warning signs and ending with late stages of the disease.
This book focuses on the practical and emotional challenges of Connie Ruben and explores how she has made peace with the disease and evolved her relationship with Grace since the diagnosis in 2003. Through Connie’s experience as a family caregiver, it encourages readers to accept, rather than resist, the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease in order to discover the joys that can be found in living with the disease. It also encourages readers to forgive themselves when they fail to balance the needs of themselves, the patients and other family members.
“The Stages of Grace” captures the emotions, the expected and unexpected issues, the painful times as well as the humorous and loving moments that Grace Ruben and author Connie Ruben have shared as a result of Alzheimer’s disease. The author hopes this book will appeal to a broad readership because it is a story about learning to balance personal, familial and professional needs. It also serves as a resource material for people who are caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s disease.
