GI Jobs ® Announces Top 10 Hot Degrees for Veterans: Smart Education Choices for Hot Veteran Careers
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) June 16, 2014 -- G.I. Jobs® released today its 2014 Top 10 Hot Degrees for Veterans at GIJobs.com, highlighting the best fields of study for America’s veterans based on post-graduation employment opportunities. Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs® and the Hot Degrees list, surveyed hiring managers at Military Friendly Employers® -- 200 large employers that boast leading military recruiting and retention programs nationwide – to identify the preferred education, training, certification and/or licensing for veterans to launch a career in today’s hottest fields.
“Education shouldn’t be viewed as a means to an end, but a means to a good career,” said Sean Collins, Vice President at Victory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, and a nine-year Navy veteran. “Our Military Friendly Employers® hired over 180,000 veterans within the last year, proof that military experience, plus the right degree, make veterans highly desirable employees."
While Bachelor degrees in Business Administration, Engineering, and HealthCare top the Hot Degrees list, half of the degree or certificate programs offer a “fast track” option for student veterans looking to graduate and enter the job market in two years or less.
The Top 10 Hot Degrees for Veterans 2014 are four-year degrees in Business Administration, Engineering, Healthcare, Information Technology, and Operations & Logistics, as well as certificate programs and two-year degrees specializing in Driver, Information Technology, Mechanic, HealthCare and Technician occupations.
“Veterans, by training, are mission-focused. They see going back to school as a logical step after leaving the service,” Collins said. “That’s a good start, but the Hot Degrees list looks beyond education by putting career outcomes front and center. Tie that in with our Military Friendly Schools® resources, and veterans have all the tools they need to map out their entire path to civilian success.”
Now in its sixth year, the Military Friendly Schools® list and digital tools help prospective students identify schools that offer hot degrees and have leading practices for military students, from among the 8,000 nationwide approved for Post-9/11 G.I. Bill funding. All post-secondary schools are eligible to take the 2014-2015 Military Friendly Schools® survey assessment at no cost, open now. Post-9/11 veterans can read more about this year’s Hot Degrees and map fields of study to the Top 20 Hot Jobs for Veterans on GIJobs.com.
