The National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA) has opened nominations for the 2014 Vetrepreneur of the Year® (VOY) powered by USAA. Now in its eighth year, VOY is a prestigious honor bestowed annually to one of the nation’s 3 million veteran business owners. Vetrepreneurs are encouraged to self-nominate their businesses at NaVOBA’s new Vetrepreneur of the Year® website, http://voy.navoba.com, which offers a one-stop-shop for submissions and information on nominee eligibility, rules and regulations and past honorees.
Nominations are being taken until March 1, 2014.
To be eligible to receive the award, the nominee must be a U.S. military veteran business owner who actively runs the company. The Vetrepreneur of the Year® demonstrates the finest attributes crucial in leading a flourishing business; sustained business growth and success; and a strong drive to cultivate veteran entrepreneurship.
The 2014 Vetrepreneur of the Year® will grace the cover of the May 2014 issue of Vetrepreneur magazine.
Additional veteran-owned businesses in the following categories will be honored in Vetrepreneur magazine and at special ceremonies held at corresponding events. Those honorees and events include:
U.S. Army veteran Michael Durant, president of Pinnacle Solutions Inc., was last year’s honoree. Durant is a former Super Six-Four Black Hawk pilot who was shot down during the Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993. He was held captive for 11 days. His story, as well as of those who fought in the battle, was portrayed in the film, “Black Hawk Down.”
“I was truly honored to be named the 2013 Vetrepreneur of the Year® by NaVOBA and Vetrepreneur magazine. I take great pride in my military service and in our success at Pinnacle,” Durant said.
Past VOY recipients also have included small business owners such as Josh Collins, an Army veteran and owner of Huske Hardware House Restaurant and Brewery in Fayetteville, N.C.
