WSO2 Presents Summer School Class on Applying API Management to the Internet of Things
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) July 17, 2014 -- For the capabilities of Internet of Things (IoT) devices to be useful, there needs to be a programmatic way of accessing these capabilities. The fifth WSO2 Summer School class of 2014 will examine how using a managed API provides a programmer-friendly approach for controlling and monitoring an IoT device.
The interactive online class, “API Management in the Context of IoT,” will be led by WSO2 Director of API Architecture Sumedha Rubasinghe. It is being offered at no cost as a part of the WSO2 Summer School 2014 program. The session will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Pacific.
To attend the class, register at http://wso2.com/library/webinars/2014/07/api-management-in-the-context-of-iot.
Managed APIs for the Internet of Things
The class will examine how APIs are fundamental building blocks for enabling the Internet of Things, the problems created by an inefficient API, and how taking a managed API approach provides better control and monitoring.
Among the topics covered will be how managed APIs can be used for:
• Throttling to protect a device from being exposed to more traffic than it has the capabilities to handle, a common risk when developers use a naked API.
• Exposing statistics about how a device is being accessed to gain better insight into usage and performance.
• Managing subscriptions, a key challenge for handling large volumes of devices.
For architects and developers who want to learn more about IoT best practices, WSO2 has published a white paper, “A Reference Architecture for the Internet of Things.” The paper is designed to provide an effective starting point for addressing the major requirements of IoT projects and systems. It can be downloaded at http://wso2.com/whitepapers/a-reference-architecture-for-the-internet-of-things.
