WSO2 CTO to Present Two Sessions at EclipseCon NA 2014
Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) March 11, 2014 -- WSO2 today announced that WSO2 Co-founder and CTO Paul Fremantle will present two sessions at EclipseCon North America (NA) 2014. The first will examine best practices for building an Apache Stratos (incubating) platform as a service (PaaS) framework. The second will discuss how to secure Internet of Things (IoT) devices and machine-to-machine (M2M) interactions. EclipseCon NA 2014 will run March 17-20, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport in Burlingame, CA.
Apache Stratos – Building a PaaS using OSGi and Equinox
Increasingly, enterprises seek agile environments to deploy applications quickly onsite or in the cloud, enabling them to run efficiently and scale elastically to meet shifting demands. In this session, Paul will provide an introduction to the Apache Stratos (incubating) PaaS framework, which is built on Equinox and the OSGi framework. Key topics will include:
• An overview of Apache Stratos (incubating), and how it compares to other PaaS systems.
• How to deploy it on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenStack clouds.
• Use of supporting workloads, such as Java, OSGi, Apache Tomcat applications, PHP, Node.js, MySQL, MongoDB, Apache Cassandra and more.
• Understanding why and how Equinox is used.
• Best practices for improving multi-tenancy, security and elastic scaling.
• Live demonstrations of Apache Stratos (incubating).
The session will be held 10:30–11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014, as part of the Eclipse RT Track, in Grand Peninsula C at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport.
Securing IoT Applications
Enterprises are recognizing the growing risk around the security and privacy of IoT devices and M2M interactions. Paul will co-present a session on how to address this issue with Paul Madsen, senior technical architect within the Office of the CTO at Ping Identity, which explores encryption, federated identity, and authorization models. Together, they will begin by examining the security challenges around using M2M interactions with protocols, such as Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). Then they will discuss how to secure MQTT with Transport Layer Security (TLS), the challenges with Arduino, and the use of hardware encryption for microcontrollers.
Additionally, this session will dive into privacy requirements for user-centric IoT device use cases to strengthen data collection and sharing practices. The co-presenters will cover how to apply protocols such as OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and User-Managed Access (UMA) to the M2M world to enable a privacy-respecting user consent and authorization model. Finally, they will run a live demonstration of Arduino and Eclipse Paho inter-operating secured by OAuth 2.0.
The session will be held 2:15–2:50 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, as part of the M2M Day Track, in Grand Peninsula B at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport.
