WSO2 Technology Experts Will Explore How to Take Advantage of Apache-Based Enterprise PaaS Capabilities at ApacheCon North America 2014

Two WSO2 technology executives will address this challenge in their presentations examining the architectural features and best practices for taking advantage of the Apache Stratos (incubating) platform as a service (PaaS) framework at ApacheCon North America 2014.

Keynote: Introducing Apache Stratos (Incubating)
Samisa Abeysinghe, WSO2 vice president of developer evangelism, will present the keynote, “Apache Stratos - PaaS Project from the Apache Community,” which will run from 9:45-9:55 a.m. on Monday April 7, 2014 in the Confluence Ballroom.
In the keynote, Samisa will examine the architecture and key features of the Apache Stratos (incubating) PaaS framework. He also will discuss how the polyglot PaaS framework provides developers with a cloud-based environment for developing, testing, and running scalable applications. Additionally, he will explore how the PaaS delivers high utilization rates, automated resource management, and platform-wide insight including monitoring and billing.
Samisa has nearly 15 years of experience working for systems integrators and software vendors with global exposure. Previously, he led the development of WSO2’s cloud and middleware platforms as vice president of engineering. Prior to WSO2, Samisa worked for systems integrators and software vendors with global exposure. He is a longtime Apache Web Services project committer, and initiated the Apache Axis2/C project. In addition to several published articles, Samisa has authored two books: “RESTful PHP Web Services” and “PHP Team Development.”
Presentation: Essential Elements of an Enterprise PaaS
Lakmal Warusawithana, WSO2 software architect, will present the session, “Essential Elements of an Enterprise PaaS,” which is part of the “Cloudy Track” that will run from 10:00-10:50 a.m. on Wednesday April 9, 2014 in the Curtis room.
In the session, Lakmal will begin by reviewing the essential elements of an effective enterprise PaaS, including faster delivery, intelligent capacity on demand, efficiency, security, and high performance. Lakmal then will discuss how the Apache Stratos (incubating) PaaS framework delivers on each of these requirements.
Lakmal focuses on the development of Apache Stratos (incubating) and WSO2 Private PaaS (formerly WSO2 Stratos). He has over 11 years of industry experience. In 2005, Lakmal co-founded the thinkCube, pioneering the next generation of collaborative cloud computing products tailored toward telecom operators. He oversaw the overall engineering process and focused special attention to scalability and service delivery of thinkCube solutions. Prior to co-founding thinkCube, Lakmal specialized in Linux-based server deployments that came with a custom server management interface at ITABS.
