WSO2 Director of Cloud Architecture to Speak at CloudOpen North America 2014
Mountain View, CA (PRWEB) August 14, 2014 -- Platform as a service (PaaS) facilitates DevOps by allowing developers to focus on application development rather than managing the supporting platform. Lakmal Warusawithana, WSO2 director of cloud architecture and vice president of Apache Stratos, will explore how the Apache Stratos PaaS framework can enable a highly productive, managed developer environment at CloudOpen North America 2014. The conference will run August 20-22, 2014 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers in Chicago.
Advancing Cloud Management with Apache Stratos
The session, "Building a DevOps PaaS with Puppet, Docker, OpenStack, and Apache Stratos," will examine how to take advantage of Apache Stratos capabilities to deploy a DevOps PaaS that empowers developers and supports a range of deployment options.
Lakmal will begin with an architectural overview of Apache Stratos, a highly extensible PaaS framework that can run a range of software—such as Apache Tomcat, PHP, and MySQL, among others—through cartridges that plug into Stratos. He then will discuss how Stratos provides developers a cloud-based environment for developing, testing and running scalable applications. Additionally, he will explain how IT organizations can achieve high utilization rates through in-container multi-tenancy, automated resource management, platform-wide insight through monitoring, and monetization via billing.
Lakmal then will focus the majority of the session on practical and effective approaches to implementation. He will explain how to install Apache Stratos on OpenStack infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Then he will show how Stratos can be extended to support new application containers by deploying sample applications using Docker (for automated deployment within software containers) and Puppet (for configuration management). Finally, Lakmal will demonstrate how to use key Stratos functions for application deployment, provisioning, auto-scaling and more.
The session is part of the event’s CloudOpen track. It will be held 1:45-2:45 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2014 in the Mississippi Room at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers in Chicago.
