NAPW honors Melanie M. Balousek, entrepreneur as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. She is recognized with this prestigious distinction for business and community leadership. Community minded, socially conscious and passionately motivated are words that best describe Ms. Balousek. An aspiring business owner, her drive and ambition helped her play an important role in the gentrifying trend taking place in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
The Bushwick area attracts a conglomeration of artists, musicians and young entrepreneurs pursuing their dreams. It has been fertile ground for Ms. Balousek who says, “I envision myself working in the field of bakery management, or maybe even arts management in regards to theaters and museums.”
Though residing in Sunnyside, Queens, Ms. Balousek has contributed much to the vibrant Bushwick community including organizing the entire educational panel discussion for the 6th Annual Bushwick Film Festival. The festival, sponsored by Fractured Atlas, the renowned nonprofit art service organization, “provides a unique platform for independent film makers and media artists to share their stories and engage a diverse audience of film lovers and industry professionals.”
As a recent member of NAPW, Ms. Balousek says, “I embrace my role as a new member of the organization.” She intends to use it as a forum to promote herself for her abilities and accomplishments. Presently, Ms. Balousek is an associate at Sprinkles Cupcakes, where she encourages hundreds of devoted cupcake fans to go for seconds.
