Garden City, NY (PRWEB) May 20, 2014

NAPW honors Kathy J. Mehlmann as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Mehlmann is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in business. As the largest, most-recognized organization of women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, the National Association of Professional Women is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 400 Local Chapters.

“In December 2013 I decided to walk away from a long career in the financial services industry. I wanted to explore job opportunities in a new industry, an industry committed to helping people,” says Ms. Mehlmann.

Six months later, Ms. Mehlmann found what she was looking for at Cochlear, a global leader in implantable hearing solutions. She took on the role of Project Manager for Cochlear Americas and Cochlear Latinoamerica. She has managed a variety of projects involving the new Latin America corporate offices in Panama including the transition of US support services, and IT and regulatory project management where she supports new product registrations and re-registrations.

In a short time, Ms. Mehlmann, who has a B.S. in Accounting, an M.B.A. and a Master’s in IT/Project Management, has accomplished much at Cochlear. She considers the designing, structuring and documenting of the product registration process for the region to be one of her latest accomplishments, particularly since each country has a different health ministry and nuanced requirements. "Putting a formalized process in place was never done before," says Ms. Mehlmann.

“It has been a steep learning curve since the medical industry is completely different from financial services," Ms. Mehlmann acknowledges of her career change. "But I have loved the challenge! This has been a fabulous opportunity to learn a new industry, as I had hoped. The patient testimonials are truly inspiring as the ‘gift of hearing’ is life changing.”
