Standard Process Inc. Offers Over 110 Gluten-Free Products
Palmyra, WI (PRWEB) August 12, 2014 -- Diet trends tend to ebb and flow, some fading away as quickly as they start. However, recent studies indicate the gluten-free diet trend is still going strong. In 2013, nearly 30 percent of U.S. adults indicated they have reduced or eliminated gluten from their diet.* As a way to let health care professionals and patients know the extent of its gluten-free products in its product line, Standard Process Inc. is now including a gluten-free icon on its supplement labels.
“With 61 percent of our supplements being gluten-free, we wanted to make it easy to identify our gluten-free products,” said Ann Holden, vice president of quality control for Standard Process. “By placing the gluten-free icon on our product labels, health care professionals and patients who are concerned about gluten can now select our gluten-free products with confidence.”
Standard Process’ decision to add the icon was made in part due to the August 2013 U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) defining “gluten-free” for voluntary food labeling. In order for the gluten-free term to be used on a label, a food must meet all the requirements of the definition, including that the food contains less than 20 parts per million of gluten.
Of the 184 products in the Standard Process product line, 113 products meet the FDA’s definition of gluten-free. The company tests all its products with the gluten-free designation each time they are manufactured to ensure gluten-free compliance. Standard Process began phasing in the icon on labels last month.
Standard Process plans to release more gluten-free product options as it grows its product line. To see a complete listing of gluten-free products from Standard Process, visit the Gluten Free and Vegetarian page at standardprocess.com.
