This acquisition of Viralheat is a prime example of our commitment to expanding our social offering and providing innovative products and services to PR, communication, social and content marketing professionals.

Cision, a leading global media intelligence company, today announced the acquisition of Viralheat, a top social media engagement platform. Cision is building out the industry’s most comprehensive suite of social engagement tools, and its recent acquisition of Visible Technologies and now of Viralheat reinforce the company’s commitment to expanding its social capabilities.

Viralheat’s technology, which is consistently rated as a top performer on software review sites, will power Cision’s social services. This media intelligence software, which includes rich analytics, will help digital marketers and communicators improve their marketing while strengthening data-driven decision making.

"Viralheat simplified the management of our social media program, gave us the tools to increase the impact of content, and provided measurable results into how our content is performing across all channels," said Shannon Hughes, senior marketing director of Udemy.

“When Cision and Vocus combined, we emphasized that our customers would benefit from ongoing investments in this space,” said Cision Chief Executive Officer Peter Granat. "This acquisition of Viralheat is a prime example of our commitment to expanding our social offering and providing innovative products and services to PR, communication, social and content marketing professionals."

Viralheat’s technology will be available to Cision customers in the U.S. immediately. Throughout 2015, Cision will expand availability to include the Canadian, Swedish, U.K., French and German markets. Viralheat’s employees will join the Cision team, and Viralheat Chief Executive Officer Jeff Revoy and co-founders Raj Kadam and Vishal Sankhla will be part of Cision’s senior management.

“Cision’s acquisition of Viralheat is symbolic of the evolution of social media from a targeted communications channel into an essential and real-time element of every brand’s public presence,” said Viralheat CEO Jeff Revoy. “By becoming part of the Cision family of technologies, we can deliver a more comprehensive solution to a much larger base of global clients.”
