You can become the best you at any age. Life and love are not exclusive to the younger generation. I plan to have a final act worthy of a standing ovation.

According to the University of Chicago, more than a third of all marriages between 2005 and 2012 began online. Many claim the fastest growing age demographic of the online dating industry is the more mature generation of baby boomers and older. Author Joan Barrett happily lands in that category and participates in what she playfully calls S.I.N.S., or singles Internet dating services.

“I was left suddenly single at the age of 62 after a 15-year co-habitation when my partner decided to return to his ex-wife who had divorced him 21 years before,” Barrett said. “This traumatic circumstance initiated my participation in online dating, which changed my life.”

Barrett’s new book, “Candyland S.I.N.S.,” is a practical and emotional guide on how to prepare for and enjoy dating online. The author draws from others’ experiences as well as her own, while using compelling studies to help those who might be too scared to take the plunge. The book is also at the top of U.S. and Canadian online bookseller rankings within the Internet and online dating categories.

“Life loves people who live it with passion,” Barrett said. “I wrote ‘Candyland S.I.N.S.’ to support new and current members, but especially those who are not yet members who want to know more about this ‘Candyland’ of tempting treats.”

Although mature online dating has enhanced Barrett’s life for the better, she doesn’t wear rose-colored glasses. She has experienced many successful outcomes and endured disappointments but has always bounced back.

“You can become the best you at any age,” Barrett said. “Life and love are not exclusive to the younger generation. I plan to have a final act worthy of a standing ovation.”
