Westchester County Tourism Recommends Ice Skating, Cross Country Skiing and Sledding for Outdoor Fun

Westchester County Tourism has the go-to guide to experience outdoor and indoor fun this winter. Ice skating, cross country skiing and sledding are all outdoor activities available throughout the county this time of year, and a host of hotels and restaurants have spectacular offers to make Westchester an enjoyable getaway for all.

“Bring your family to Westchester for a day of outdoor activities like ice skating, sledding or even cross country skiing. Then, warm up inside by staying at one of our cozy hotels and dining at one of our many award-winning restaurants. Westchester has it all this winter,” said County Executive Robert P. Astorino. “Meet Me in Westchester, the heart of the Hudson Valley.”

Upcoming activities and events are highlighted below:

Outdoor Fun
With the arrival of winter weather, Westchester is host to ice skating, cross country skiing and sledding fun at many county park locations. Don’t let the cold weather bring you down. Round up the entire family for ice skating (weather permitting) at the following parks:

  •     Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers
  •     Blue Mountain Reservation, Welcher Avenue, Peekskill
  •     Wampus Pond, Route 128, Armonk
  •     Mountain Lakes Park, Hawley Road, North Salem
  •     Willson’s Woods Park, East Lincoln Avenue, Mount Vernon
  •     Tibbetts Brook Park, Midland Avenue, Yonkers
  •     Playland Ice Casino, Rye

If you’re a fan of cross country skiing, go to the following locations when snow cover permits:

  •     Blue Mountain Reservation, Welcher Avenue, Peekskill
  •     Croton Gorge, Route 129, Cortlandt
  •     Croton Point Park, Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson
  •     Kitchawan Preserve, Route 134, Yorktown
  •     Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers
  •     Mohansic Golf Course, Baldwin Road off Taconic Parkway, Yorktown Heights
  •     Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Routes 35 and 121 South, Cross River
  •     Cranberry Lake Preserve, Old Orchard Street off Route 22, North White Plains
  •     Maple Moor Golf Course, North Street, White Plains
  •     Marshlands Conservancy, Route 1, Rye
  •     The trails at Merestead, Byram Lake Road, Mount Kisco
  •     Saxon Woods Park, Mamaroneck Avenue, White Plains
  •     Saxon Woods Golf Course, Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale

Sledding is also allowed (weather permitting) at Croton Gorge, Lasdon Park, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation and Dunwoodie, Sprain Lake, Saxon Woods, Mohansic and Maple Moor golf courses.

For all activities, participants must bring their own equipment and all sports are permitted seven days a week during daylight hours only. Admission and parking are free unless otherwise noted. Visit for directions and contact information for the parks.

Stay & Play
With chilly temperatures, visitors may want to enjoy their getaway indoors. The Renaissance Westchester Hotel is offering a special offer for couples who are looking for a retreat from their busy everyday lives. Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson is offering a Valentine’s Day Dinner Package that cannot be resisted. Starting at $369, this package includes Deluxe accommodations, as well as a delicious dinner at Cellar 49 which includes Lobster Risotto, Filet Mignon and Chocolate Port Wine Reduction and paired wines and beers with each course. Plan Ahead
Public tickets are now on sale for the inaugural KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, to be held at Westchester Country Club in Harrison from June 9-14. Admission starts at $15 for practice rounds on June 9 and 10, all the way up to a Weekly Clubhouse Pass for $200. The pass includes access to the golf course, main clubhouse and clubhouse foyer, patio and lawn areas Tuesday through Sunday.

There are also one-day Flex Passes available for $35, which allows golf course access on your day of choice through the event, and Daily Grounds Passes, which range from $15 each for Tuesday and Wednesday to $30 each for Saturday and Sunday.
