Executive Leadership Team Expanded to Accelerate Growth and Momentum
Bethesda, Maryland (PRWEB) January 06, 2015 -- Weather Analytics, global leader in weather intelligence, announced today a key addition to the company’s executive team. Dr. Wallace Hogsett was named Chief Science Officer to bring scientific leadership experience to Weather Analytics where he leads Research and Development for products and services.
Dr. Hogsett joined Weather Analytics from the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). While with NOAA, he served as the Science and Operations Officer at the National Weather Prediction Center and spearheaded product development at the National Hurricane Center. He holds a PhD in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences from the University of Maryland, focusing on numerical modeling, and has published a number of articles in prominent scientific journals.
“Dr. Hogsett is a rare find,” says CEO Bill Pardue. “He probably isn't the only truck-driving storm-chaser from NOAA, but his vision for leading programmers and data scientists to revolutionize the way we understand the weather is truly unique”.
Deciding to move from a prestigious government agency to a weather start-up wasn't an easy call. But it all came down to where he saw atmospheric science heading. “Advances in data science and machine learning are going to outpace traditional meteorological techniques.” Says Dr. Hogsett, “Weather Analytics is at the forefront of using algorithms and database technology to disrupt the way we understand, model, and predict the state of the atmosphere.”
Moreover, as Dr. Hogsett sees it, traditional meteorology too often gets caught up in its own methodologies, “without actually translating science for different end-users, or making meaningful connections with business operations.”
His interest in the acceleration of data creation and the rapid pace of technology advancement found a good home at Weather Analytics. He took note of the weather data solutions the company has provided for the federal and insurance markets and his vision for the company is to be recognized as the authoritative source for business weather intelligence.
“We provide the most complete and comprehensive weather data and serve as a center of excellence for deriving value from data. We have expertise in meteorological data, data science, technology and visualization. As technology continues to advance rapidly, we integrate science and technology in innovative ways that provide immense value for our clients.”
Dr. Hogsett will be presenting along with Weather Analytics Director of Scientific Modeling, Dr. Stefan Cecelski, at the 2015 American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting.
