What if what every religion taught about the afterlife was true? What kind of government would manage the system?

Elena Sands presents “Heaven’s Waiting Room has Lousy Magazines”, a new novel available at and Amazon’s kindle store. In her debut novel, the author takes readers beyond the doors of death into the comically inept government of Heaven, and into Elysium, the ancient home of all deceased pagans.

“I wanted to write a whimsical novel and poke a little fun at organized religion, but I also wanted to investigate the other side of the story, from the perspective of pagans,” said the author.

The novel’s main character is Dr. Henry Hall, a secular agnostic with a PhD in philosophy who refuses to take an oath and enter Heaven. He is then unceremoniously dumped into Elysium, the place where Heaven sends everyone who doesn't meet their criteria, but isn't necessarily a bad person. Dr. Hall comes back to Heaven as a spy for Elysium. He is assigned to the Waiting Room Department, where he must contend with red tape, illegal food smuggling, and his wicked boss, a former student who once loved him. At the same time he reunites with his wife, a devout Christian, who begins to doubt the authority of the Heavenly administration. Dr. Hall causes trouble, as he usually does, and tensions rise between Heaven and Elysium until the war begins.

About the Author: Elena Sands is originally from West Texas but has lived all over the world, due to military service. The tensions between her flower-toting hippie mother and her Presbyterian grandmother led to her investigation of comparative religion. Now she lives in Ohio with her family and teaches math to high school students.
