iPourIt is the only technology that will allow for the size of install and end-user experience I wanted for my patrons.

Asheville, NC is the craft-brewing center of the Southeast and now home to the largest self-serve beer and wine bar in the US: Pour Taproom. With 56 self-serve taps, they have a large variety of beer and wine to sample. Pour Taproom features 50 self-serve taps upstairs: 40 beer, 8 wine and 2 non-alcoholic drinks. They have an additional 6 beer taps downstairs in their gaming and live music room. Each of the taps is controlled and monitored through iPourIt’s patented system.
When entering Pour Taproom you are greeted by a Beer Host that scans your driver’s license and credit card and gives you a wristband that allows you to pour your own drinks. The host then shows you how to activate the taps with the wristband and how to properly pour a beer; you can pour as little as an ounce or up to a full pint and you only pay for what you’ve poured. With 56 taps, sampling is encouraged. “It’s like a beer and wine festival every day of the week,” explains Nate Tomforde, owner of Pour Taproom. When you’ve had your fill you can take your wristband back to your beer host to close out your tab.
Each tap has an interactive touchscreen above it that gives you detailed information of the beer including ABV, IBU, price per ounce and a description straight from the brewery. In addition, it shows you how much you’ve poured and how much you have left to pour before you reach your limit. When you reach your ounce limit, you can talk with any beer host to get instantly reloaded.
More importantly for clients, iPourIt’s self-serve system increases revenue, decreases operating costs, provides detailed data for targeted marketing and represents a paradigm shift in patron experience.
Tomforde first heard about self-serve beer and wine while watching a video on a popular social video website. “I thought the self-serve bar could be a game changer and started researching where I would open my first bar and which technology I would use. iPourIt was the only technology that would allow for the size of install and end-user experience I wanted for my patrons.” Tomforde moved from Silicon Valley and headed to one of the hottest craft beer cities in the world, Asheville, North Carolina, to open his first Pour Taproom.
“We are excited to be part of Pour Taproom’s business model,” explained Brett Jones, CTO and inventor of iPourIt’s self-serve system. “It can be overwhelming going somewhere with so many choices and not knowing what you’ll like, but iPourIt allows patrons to sample a few beers or wines before committing to a full glass.”
Pour Taproom utilizes iPourIt’s built-in Point Of Sale system for all their restaurant and bar needs. “With iPourIt’s POS I can efficiently manage my restaurant and bar on a single system. A single point of support means I don’t have to worry about technology and can concentrate on my customers,” says Tomforde.
“We do all of our own development of the system in-house,” says Jones. “That means that support calls are answered by people that wrote the code leading to fast resolution times. We don’t have to escalate the issue to someone overseas or wait for someone else to help us help our customer. In addition, a lot of new features are built, tested and deployed the day they are requested.”
Pour Taproom has been open a few months and there are already plans for more locations in 2015.
