Iowa City a ZipRecruiter.com “Easiest City for Jobs”
Iowa City, Iowa (PRWEB) January 07, 2015 -- The website ZipRecruiter.com recently published the top 20 “Easiest Cities to Find a Job,” with Iowa City ranked number 6.
This is the fifth significant ranking the Iowa City MSA has received in recent months:
• Iowa City #6, "Easiest Cities to Find a Job," ZipRecruiter.com, January 2015
• Iowa City #6, "The 10 Smartest Cities in America," MarketWatch, January 2015
• Iowa City #2, "Best Cities for Successful Aging (Small Cities)," Milken Institute, November 2014
• Iowa City #4, "20 Best College Towns," Business Insider, October 2014
• Iowa City "Winner - Best Place for an Encore Career" on "Best Places to Retire," Money, October 2014
Iowa City Mayor Matt Hayek says rankings such as these help advance Iowa City’s reputation as a midsize, metropolitan community where companies succeed and people want to live. “Iowa City is a hub for education, diversity and cultural offerings that are quite unique,” said Hayek. “Companies thrive in this innovative and progressive environment, and our challenge now is to attract workforce as fast as our growing companies need them.”
According to Christian Neeser, Outreach Manager for ZipRecruiter, it is easier to find a job now than at any other time in the last six years. “We analyzed our database of over 23 million job applications and 4 million job postings and discovered that Iowa City was among the top 10 best cities for jobs in 2014,” said Neeser. To compile this list, ZipRecruiter looked at anonymized application actions from within its database of millions of job postings, calculated the ratio of job applicants to open positions, and ranked them according to the level of competition.
DaLayne Williamson, Workforce Business Services Director for the Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group, says she’s seen a spike in hiring, job searches, as well as an influx of resumes from people looking to return to the area or move here for the first time.
“As we start 2015, ICAD Group is providing both our clients and job seekers a multitude of workforce development tools,” said Williamson. “PickYourPace.com provides links, videos, and information on living and working in our area; the Corridor Job Club continues to grow in numbers helping professional-level job seekers with their search; and we are sponsoring a monthly career webinar series with the University of Iowa Alumni Association.”
Williamson added that ICAD Group has invested in improving and introducing new career resources throughout last year to help job seekers and interstate commerce companies in the Iowa City area.
“We partnered with the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce and Diversity Focus to launch the new Corridor Connector program in November to better connect our employers with talent. And, we continue to work with more than twenty regional employers on improving their workplace culture through our TEAM Centered Workplaces initiative as a means to become an employer of choice,” said Williamson.
