Conservation International Raises Half-Million Dollars Through #NatureIsSpeaking Hashtag
Arlington, Va., USA (PRWEB) January 08, 2015 -- Nature is speaking, and for the first time ever people around the world have shown they’re hearing nature’s voice through social media. In just 11 weeks, more than 500,000 people have shared nature’s voice using the #NatureIsSpeaking hashtag.
The campaign has drawn attention to nature’s urgent message: Nature doesn’t need people. People need nature. To encourage widespread sharing of this message, HP partnered with Conservation International to donate $1 for every use, click, share, like or favorite of #NatureIsSpeaking on key social media platforms, up to $1 million*. With 500,000 actions taken, $500,000 has been raised to help protect our environment.
“Our partnership with HP is critical to our conservation work,” said Conservation International Chairman and CEO Peter Seligmann. “It’s great to see our message is resonating with people around the globe. We have reached the halfway mark, but now we need more people to get involved. Another half million dollars is still on the table.”
The Nature Is Speaking campaign centers on a series of short films voiced by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Penélope Cruz, Harrison Ford, Edward Norton, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Redford, Julia Roberts, Ian Somerhalder and Kevin Spacey. Conservation International worked with the Audience Behavior Lab (ABL), a division of TBWA\Media Arts Lab, to create the film series under the creative direction of TBWA\MAL Chairman, Lee Clow.
The partnership between Conservation International and HP goes beyond the Nature Is Speaking campaign. Over the past two years, HP has been working with Conservation International on HP Earth Insights, an initiative that uses the company’s big data technology and expertise to create an early warning system for threatened species and help enable everyone to better listen to nature. In addition, Conservation International is using HP Explore technology to track the spread of #NatureIsSpeaking and to monitor the online conversation about nature.
“The Nature Is Speaking campaign helps connect people to what nature is saying while also bringing awareness to the impacts humans are making on the environment,” said Gabi Zedlmayer, vice president and Chief Progress Officer, HP. “Campaigns like this, along with partnerships such as HP Earth Insights, clearly illustrate how all of us—consumers, corporations, non-profits, and governments—can work together to protect our precious natural resources.”
The Nature Is Speaking films, along with behind the scenes footage by some of the actors, are available to view and embed from http://www.NatureIsSpeaking.org. The campaign and conversation will continue in 2015 with new films and more opportunities for people to get involved and take action.
