The Reeves Law Group Awards $1000 Scholarship to Baldwin-Wallace University Student
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 12, 2015 -- Nationally recognized personal injury law firm The Reeves Law Group today announced the winner of its 2014 $1000 academic scholarship contest. The winner is graduate student and Cleveland inner-city school teacher Heather Marzenski of Strongsville, OH.
Scholarship applicants were tasked with answering how they had made significant contributions to those in their communities who have met with misfortune. Mrs. Marzenski, who is currently completing a Master’s degree at Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, OH, detailed her experiences as a teacher at the St. Rocco School in Cleveland. Her application, which explored the daily challenges and successes teaching inner-city kids living at or near the poverty level, was the clear winner.
“Heather’s application was sincere, heartfelt and very deserving,” said firm founder Robert Reeves. “Not only does she run multiple fundraisers throughout the year to make up for the budget shortfalls that directly impact students in her classroom, but she collects used clothing and shoes outside of school to assist these same families. She also does all of this while working multiple jobs, finishing her Master’s degree, and caring for her own family, which includes a two-month newborn.”
According to the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) 3 in 10 students of inner-city schools live below the poverty line. In comparison, only 1 in 10 students live below the poverty line in suburbs. Be it in Ohio or nationally, the facts show that poverty remains overwhelmingly concentrated within the urban core. Hopefully, more young professionals like Mrs. Marzenski can help stem that tide.
