WESTPORT, CT (PRWEB) January 12, 2015
In a new national survey(1) of U.S. parents of school-age children (ages 4-13), almost 40% report that it isn’t always easy to give their children over-the-counter liquid cough/cold medicines. One-third of parents (34%) believe the taste of the medicine impacts how easy it is to give their child the recommended dose, with one in four (24%) saying their child often complains that liquid medicines taste bad. Like these parents, infirst Healthcare knows that taste matters, so they are providing a new solution with the new Dr. Cocoa™ for Children brand. It’s the first-ever line of patented over-the-counter cough and cold medicines formulated with trusted, effective ingredients and 10% real cocoa for real chocolate taste to improve compliance.
“Our mission is to make known, safe and effective medicines better. With Dr. Cocoa we are making effective cough and cold medicines better for kids and their parents with real chocolate flavor,” says James Barickman, General Manager at infirst Healthcare USA. “Taste is important to compliance among children, and many parents struggle with getting their children to take medicine as directed. Dr. Cocoa’s soothing real-cocoa formula was developed to improve on this issue among children – it triggers a smile, not a struggle.”
A clinical palatability study among 50 pediatric patients showed that on average the taste of Dr. Cocoa was rated as good(2). “The pediatric participants confirmed that the taste is good and hence, is not a compliance barrier. Purposefully the product is not designed to be perceived as ‘really good’ as flavor should support compliance but for a medicine not be exceedingly appealing,” adds Barickman.
