“NOVO Innocence” Wins a Historic Exoneration
New York, NY (PRWEB) January 13, 2015 -- NOVO LAW FIRM, P.C., is proud to be a part of historic victory for justice. This case continues to deliver a series of firsts – first, to expose alleged corrupt tactics of Detective Louis Scarcella, first, to win an appeal to recognize “actual innocence” under the New York Constitution, and the first to win today on “actual innocence” for Derrick Hamilton. Mr. Hamilton was wrongly convicted of murder and served 21 years in jail on fraudulent testimony by a witness who admits to being coerced into lying by NYPD Detective Scarcella. (People v. Hamilton, Index. no. 142/91 at Kings County Supreme Court; / Index No. 2011-07335 at the Second Department, Appellate Division, Supreme Court of the State of New York)
Ilya Novofastovsky, Esq., NOVO’s principal attorney, expressed an overwhelming -satisfaction for the role the firm played in righting this wrong and gratitude to the many true-believers who were part of this cause for over two-decades. “This week, I heard something new from the District Attorney’s – ‘You are right’”. It felt like the words of the Constitution popped off the page to reaffirm this country’s principals.
Derrick Hamilton too expressed his thanks and appreciation. “It means the world to me to be standing here and declared innocent,” said Hamilton. “I will forever be grateful to the NOVO INNOCENCE team for believing in me and bringing this home.”
