Life Undressed: Mythical, Romantic, & Emotional
New York, New York (PRWEB) January 12, 2015 -- Life Undressed is Stedman's second exhibition in the "undressed" project series. Her first "undressed" show, held at M55 Gallery located in Long Island City, was titled Relationships Undressed and featured couples in loving, romantic and erotic relationships.
The new paintings are similar in spirit, but her nudes now are woven together with tales relating to the subject's everyday experiences, dilemmas and hardships. Stedman feels that storytelling is a part of life, intrinsic to most cultures and helps people make sense of the world. While the nude transcends time, the telling of stories too is as basic to human beings as eating. Maybe more so, since while food allows us to live, stories are what make our lives worth living.
Stedman's style of watercolor is described by Josey Bartlett, Art Editor of the Queens Chronicle:
"The way Stedman paints is just as organic as her subject matter. She doesn't meticulously mix colors, but instead throws the paints onto the parchment and allows the colors to mix.
For the dark skin of the male ... Stedman threw down yellow and purple and allowed the complementary colors to mingle and create brown."
