Nicolai Law Group Attorney Assists Peer-To-Peer Copyright Infringement Reduction
Springfield, Massachusetts (PRWEB) January 16, 2015 -- Research released by the Center for Copyright Information (CCI) has found that a new system of educational alerts to online infringing activity, coupled with an easy path to challenge those alerts, has reduced the likelihood of future infringement by nearly 80 percent of those contacted.
Nicolai Law Group Attorney Paul Nicolai is a founding member of the independent Copyright Review Board judging challenges to online infringement notices. The Board uses an efficient process developed by the American Arbitration Association (AAA). Of the 1.3 million alerts issued during the initial phase of the Copyright Alert System, only 265 resulted in requests for review.
The primary focus of this program is educational -- to let Internet users know they illegally downloaded copyrighted material -- and give them a chance to correct the mistake with assistance from their Internet provider. The report found that the vast majority of consumers (approximately 80%) understand and make corrections to their Internet use after the first or second educational alert is received.
As a result of this success, additional Internet service providers have joined the CCI process and the wave of litigation against consumers has been ended.
