Just in time for the New Year and all of the dieters resolving to lose weight in the year ahead, US News & World Report has just release their list ranking 35 of the most popular diet plans, one of which being the Dukan Diet. Created by French doctor Pierre Dukan, the Dukan Diet is maintainable, affordable, causes zero deprivation and has proven both short and long-term results. Although it ranked low on the annual US News & World Report this year, the Dukan Diet continues to be a successful weight loss plan for hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.

To determine the results of US News & World Report’s diet rankings, health experts reviewed these 35 diets based on qualities such as being easy to follow, nutritious, and being safe and effective for weight loss and against diabetes and heart disease. The Dukan Diet was ranked at the bottom of the list at number 34 because, according to the health experts, it was too restrictive, has too many rules and the experts claim there is no evidence that it works. In comparison to other diets on the list, such as the number one ranked DASH Diet, it’s clear that there are just as many restrictions and rules to follow as the Dukan Diet, such as giving up bad fats, sugar and salt and focusing on mainly colourful vegetables and lean proteins.

US News & World Report’s breakdown of each diet shows that the top two diets listed, DASH and TLC, focus more on bettering health issues such as blood pressure and cholesterol rather than actually losing weight. For people looking for a specific diet for actual long-term weight loss, the Dukan Diet is an option that is proven to work. A study on the Dukan Diet was conducted and presented during the Annual American College of Nutrition Conference this past October 2014 by Dr. Jay Udani, CEO of Medicus Research LLC and Medical Director of Northridge Hospital Integrative Medicine Program. The final results of the study showed statistically significant and steady weight loss among all 48 participants who tried the diet, all of who lost an average of 12 pounds and as much as 45 pounds over a 24-week period.

In addition to this study, the Dukan Diet has hundreds of other weight loss ambassadors who have not only lost significant amounts of weight on the diet, but have also made positive changes to their health. For example, 43 year-old John Estrada from Texas who began his weight loss journey on the Dukan Diet a year ago went from weighing 460 pounds, being a borderline diabetic and taking blood pressure medication to losing 230 pounds, being in the best shape of his life and completing his first 100-mile bike tour this past December.

“When I consulted my doctor before beginning a diet he said that with such extreme weight and health issues such as mine, any diet would be a good one,” explains Estrada. “Among all the diets to choose from, I choose Dukan because I liked that I didn’t have to deprive myself of food or count calories.”
