The Wakeman Agency Enters Film World with Films for Change Initiative

New offering includes a spectrum of services to help filmmakers and activists raise social awareness

As part of a larger effort to expand its public relations capabilities and broaden the scope of its work with social change, the New York-based Wakeman Agency announced that it will be expanding its offerings to include public relations services for social change films on January 19th. The new initiative, called Films for Change, strives to create awareness for films that focus on social issues as well as to generate interest in social change efforts.

“When we merge visual storytelling with compelling facts, we can create broad awareness for important social issues,” said Vanessa Wakeman, founder of The Wakeman Agency. "We are at a moment in time when people are craving change and more importantly want to be a part of it. There is something very visceral about seeing the commonalities among humans as it relates to challenges and issues around the world. Films for Change will provide the strategy and tactics to help filmmakers and activists improve the visibility of important societal issues, and inspire their target audiences to be active change makers.”

Films for Change is designed to handle all aspects of social awareness impact campaigns for films. The firm’s efforts are two-fold; first, to drive attendance at the box office and second, to inform broader audiences about social issues. The Wakeman Agency will use the breadth and depth of its experience and expertise to provide strategy and planning and a wide array of tactics to mobilize communities. Media training, press conferences and event logistics, message development, writing and collateral production and community engagement are just a few of the many service The Wakeman Agency will provide as part of this offering.

Believing that everyone can contribute to making the world a better place, we want to celebrate the launch of Films for Change by inviting influencers, activists and everyday people to record a 60-second video answering the question, “What social change issue are you most passionate about?” with the goal of showing the collective desire of people to see change in the world.

The Wakeman Agency chose to launch the new initiative on Martin Luther King Day to honor Dr. King’s legacy, commitment to service and vision for creating a better world. The videos can be uploaded and viewed at http://www.facebook.com/wakemanagency and shared on social media using hashtag #Films4Change.

For each video uploaded to the Facebook page, The Wakeman Agency will provide a ticket (up to 100 tickets) for a Harlem high school student to see “Selma,” the powerful story of Dr. King’s famous march.
