PhysicianLoans and Student Osteopathic Medicine Association Announce 2014 Winners and 2015 Application Deadline
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) January 22, 2015 -- PhysicianLoans, a provider of home mortgage loans for medical professionals, and the Student Osteopathic Medicine Association (SOMA), the largest member organization of osteopathic medical students, announced today the 2014 Andrew Taylor Still Memorial Scholarship winners, along with the deadline for 2015 scholarship applications.
Each year, four third- and fourth-year osteopathic medical students are selected to receive a $500 stipend to help offset the costs of their osteopathic medical educations. Generous sponsorship by PhysicianLoans helped the following students meet some of their financial obligations in 2014:
• Angela M. Marchant, OMS IV, A.T. Still University, School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA)
• Alice I. Chen, OMS IV, ATSU-SOMA
• Dan Lynch, OMS IV, William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine
• Jennifer Walker, DO, 2014 graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine
Students who have completed a clinical rotation with an emphasis on the use of Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), under the supervision of an osteopathic physician, are offered the opportunity to apply for one of the four scholarships.
Angela Marchant, fourth-year osteopathic medical student and one of the 2014 scholarship winners, said the money allows her to take out less in student loans. “There aren’t many scholarships available for osteopathic medical students, and the majority of scholarships are for small amounts,” explained Marchant.
PhysicianLoans supports the efforts of SOMA and the osteopathic medical students who are working to complete their medical educations. “We have provided scholarships for 50 students since 2008, and will continue supporting these students who want to make a difference in the health care field,” said Tal Frank, President of PhysicianLoans.
SOMA National President Jimmy DeMeo, OMS IV, Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, said, “When we have generous sponsors like PhysicianLoans, it allows us to do more for our medical students who want to complete their medical education while minimizing debt.”
The deadline for the 2015 Andrew Taylor Still Memorial Scholarship applications is January 23. Applicants must describe any clinical experience where they utilized OMT during the current academic year. Online application submission can be found online at: http://www.somafoundation.org
