The Michael Matters Foundation Holds Second Annual “New Year, Same Wish” Fundraiser for Brain Cancer
Lincolnshire, Illinois (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- The Michael Matters Foundation will host the New Year, Same Wish fundraising event on Friday January 30th, 2015 at the Viper Alley in Lincolnshire, IL. The event will be a casual evening of live music, food and drink, for a common goal to raise money to assist those fighting brain cancer. Proceeds from this event will help support the Michael Matters Grant at the Kellogg Cancer Center located at NorthShore University Hospital in Evanston, IL.
The Michael Matters Foundation was created in 2013 in honor of the late trial lawyer Michael P. Schostok of Salvi, Schostok & Pritchard P.C. A month after turning 50-years-old, Michael began having difficulty recalling words and remembering past incidents. After a trip to the emergency room, Michael was diagnosed with a glioblastoma brain tumor. He passed away 15-months later in July of 2012.
The money raised will be used to continue the mission of helping local brain cancer patients and donating to brain cancer research. The foundation has a partnership with NorthShore University HealthSystem Kellogg Cancer Center, in which it provides grants to financially disadvantaged patients. There, Michael Matters Grants help brain cancer patients pay for important secondary costs they incur during treatment (including house ramps, stair lifts, transportation to and from treatment, hotels, food, and childcare). Last year’s NYSW event raised $50,000 for the cause.
The highly energetic Chicago cover band, The Usuals, will be performing live starting at 8:15pm. The event is for those 18-years-old and up. Event tickets include complimentary drinks and hors d’oeurvers between 7-9pm and open bowling lanes. Tickets are available now at http://www.michaelmatters.org.
