Asia Society Joins P21 to Support 21st Century Learning and Global Competence
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- Asia Society, a leading nonprofit educational institution, has joined the Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21), the nation’s leader advocating for 21st century readiness for every student. By becoming a P21 member, Asia Society joins P21’s diverse coalition of education leaders, the business community, and policymakers supporting student readiness for college, career, and citizenship along the entire continuum of learning.
Tony Jackson, Vice President, Education, will represent Asia Society on P21’s strategic council and will contribute to P21’s ongoing work in building global competence in education: “Education for global competence ensures the foundation of Asia Society’s mission of building mutual understanding and partnerships for the next generation, throughout the world. Global competence encompasses the crucial skillset that students will need to develop for 21st century work, life, and citizenship. We are excited to pursue this partnership with the P21 network to deepen our work and reach in this field, which is central to a shared future of understanding and success between the US and the world.”
“We are thrilled to have a forward-looking partner in Asia Society as we address the challenges of global competence for our students,” said Stephan Turnipseed, chair of P21 and president emeritus and executive director of strategic partnerships at LEGO Education. “After working with Asia Society for many years, we are excited to bring their leadership in global education to P21.”
P21 recently released the Framework for State Action on Global Education, a comprehensive blueprint for state leaders with six essential elements for building a robust state strategy for global education. Framework for State Action on Global Education and the accompanying Teacher Guide to K-12 Global Education Grade Level Indicators, are available for free at P21.org. P21 is proud to continue its collaborative work to engage leaders in education, business, and policy, as well as the 19 partnership states to help prepare students to lead and succeed in 21st century work, life, and citizenship.

P21 is a national organization that advocates for 21st century readiness for every student. As the United States continues to compete in a global economy that demands innovation, P21 and its members provide tools and resources to help the U.S. education system keep up by fusing the 3Rs and 4Cs (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration, and creativity and innovation). While leading districts and schools are already doing this (see Exemplar Program), P21 advocates for local, state and federal policies that support this approach for every school. http://www.p21.org and @P21CentSkills
