Canback & Company Asserts Competitiveness of Boston 2024 Olympics Bid
Cambridge, MA (PRWEB) February 24, 2015 -- Canback & Company, a global management consulting firm, has published an article contending Boston is a worthy Olympic host city. Using data from the Canback Global Income Distribution Database (C-GIDD), Canback & Company compares eight potential host cities for the 2024 Olympic Games to determine which are truly “world-class” cities.
Canback utilizes city level data on economic power, affluence, and an “economic sphere of influence” to determine which cities have the best ability to host the games. Of the eight cities analyzed – Paris, Boston, Berlin, Rome, Hamburg, Johannesburg, Baku, and Budapest – only Paris outperforms Boston.
In the analysis, Boston finished second to Paris in economic power and sphere of influence and leads the other seven candidates in affluence (measured by 2015 GDP per capita). The data also indicate that there is a substantial gap between the top two candidates, Paris and Boston, and the other six potential host cities.
Canback draws all data used in the analysis from C-GIDD, the only database in the world with comprehensive and detailed GDP and household income data for all countries. The dataset contains information not only at the national level, but by subdivisions (states, provinces, etc.), major cities, and other urban and rural areas as well. In total, the database covers 212 countries, 694 subdivisions, and 997 cities.
