Firm to provide green power to elite hotel-residence property in Park City, Utah.

The resort’s REC purchase helps to advance Montage Deer Valley’s organization-wide commitment to sustainability.

Renewable Choice Energy today announced that Montage Deer Valley, an elite hotel-residence property under the management of Montage Hotel & Resorts, has purchased green power from the Boulder firm to offset 100% of the company’s electricity use in 2015. In total, the company has purchased more than 11 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits (RECs) from Renewable Choice.

Developed in 2010, Montage Deer Valley is located in Park City Utah. Styled after the great mountain lodges of the West, the resort features access to outstanding recreational opportunities, including ‘true’ ski-in/ski-out access to Deer Valley Resort, ranked as the #1 ski resort in America by SKI Magazine for seven of the last eight years, 2008-2015.

The resort’s REC purchase helps to advance Montage Deer Valley’s organization-wide commitment to sustainability. The resort is the first hotel/resort property in Utah to receive a LEED® Certification (Silver), and is a participant in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ER3 pilot program. In addition to its commitment to green power, the resort features natural lighting, indigenous materials, a comprehensive waste management program, and environmentally-sensitive landscaping.

“Among our company’s founding principles is a commitment to sustainable resort development, which influences our design, construction and operational practices,” said Mark Slyman, Director of Technical Services & Sustainability for Montage Hotels & Resorts. Slyman continues: “Montage is fortunate to have properties located in pristine locations and it is our responsibility to be stewards to their local environment. Montage works to minimize the impact on local community with our building construction practices--everything from sourcing local materials to selecting materials with recycled content and recycling construction waste. Operational policies, procedures, and equipment are put in place in order to increase efficiency, utilize environmentally friendly products, and require less energy resulting in positive returns on investment. And, more importantly, it is simply the right thing to do.”

“Purchasing RECs from Renewable Choice Energy so the resort’s power is generated 100% from wind was the logical choice for us to move our commitment to best green practices forward,” stated Allen Highfield, Montage Deer Valley General Manager. “This effort is valued by guests from all over the world who care about the environment and want the businesses they support to operate in a manner that contributes to a sustainable community and a sustainable planet.”

RECs are the way that green power is tracked and traded in North America and are used by thousands of U.S. and Canadian organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to decrease environmental impact. The RECs purchased by Montage Deer Valley are certified by Green-e® Energy, the nation’s leading third-party certification program for renewable energy.

“Montage Deer Valley is a resort committed to caring for the environment, and we are delighted to partner with them,” said Jay Pawlak, Director of Business Development at Renewable Choice. “Through their commitments to environmental stewardship and green power, Montage Deer Valley is making an important contribution to the paradigm shift underway in this country. We applaud their goals to minimize environmental impact in all areas of their business.”
