ERA Environmental's EH&S Software offers all the functionality required to comply with proposed Flare Emissions Monitoring requirements expected to be finalized in May 2015.

In May 2015 the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to publish its final ruling on proposed changes to the refinery MACT, rolling out comprehensive new flare emissions monitoring regulations, requiring an increased number of monitoring devices and closer scrutiny to flare compliance. ERA Environmental Management Solutions has implemented advanced new functionality that is capable of managing and automating the extensive new monitoring requirements, empowering refineries to remain compliant. ERA is offering a complimentary e-book detailing the proposed EPA ruling and how ERA is addressing the industry’s needs: visit for your copy.

The new flare emissions monitoring ruling is expected to introduce an avalanche of data that many refineries are not currently prepared to manage. The EPA MACT proposal states that flare operators will have to take continuous readings on flare tip velocity, flow rate of assist media, heat content, total hydrocarbons, and other vent gas properties multiple times per hour from a variety of continuous monitoring systems, including (but not limited to) gas chromatographs, thermocouples, calorimeters, and THC monitors. These devices will generate a significant influx of data sets for refinery managers to process and document. EPA is also extending the requirements for visual emissions monitoring and recordkeeping.

ERA’s Environmental Management Software has full integration capabilities with all of the EPA-recommended monitoring devices and can automatically process all flare data required by the proposed rule. By implementing ERA’s EMS platform, refinery operators are able to capture flare information from monitoring devices, analyze the data following EPA standards, receive automatic notifications about compliance risk, and roll that data up as executive KPI reports. Estimated time savings from using ERA’s software to comply with the refinery MACT flare emissions monitoring requirements is over 85%.
