The symposium is a collaboration between the Literacy and Multilingual Studies Department of Mercy College and the New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE).

We want to get ahead of the issue and help develop practitioners’ expertise for effective practices when teaching these students.

Mercy College Symposium on Dynamic Bilingualism

Nationally, one in five students is categorized as an English Language Learner. Developing the potential of these students is a national priority – especially here in Westchester County. Mercy College is taking on the issue with its first ever Symposium on Dynamic Bilingualism – the conference aims to examine how to better teach and motivate students who are learning English along with their native language.

Mercy College Educational Leadership Department Associate Professor Dr. Zoila Tazi said: “Here is Westchester County this issue is growing every day as the Spanish speaking population in the county grows. We want to get ahead of the issue and help develop practitioners’ expertise for effective practices when teaching these students.”

New York State Associate Commissioner for Bilingual Education, Angélica Infante, will be addressing the audience at the start of the event.
