All Aboard! Comic Con Is Hitting the High Seas and Setting Sail for the Western Caribbean
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) January 27, 2015 -- ComicCruise International (ComicCruise) organizers announced today a first of its kind cruise designed to take the popular Comic Convention (Comic Con) events to the high seas aboard Holland America's MS Eurodam on October 25 - November 1, 2015.
The first ever ComicCruise(sm) will combine a luxury cruise to the Western Caribbean with Comic Con. A “Comic Con” is a pop culture event that unites celebrities, comicbook creators, artists and authors in a venue where fans can meet, interact with, take pictures with and get autographs from their heroes.
ComicCruise has also announced its first celebrity guest; director, illustrator, art director, producer and writer, Rob Prior. Prior is the official HBO Game of Thrones artist and over the course of his career he has worked as a comicbook artist for Marvel and DC Comics. He’s best known for his work with Spawn, Terminator, Deep Space 9 and Heavy Metal. He is a fan favorite for his ability to draw and paint with both hands simultaneously, upside down and for his uncanny ability to paint photo-realistically.
ComicCruise will depart out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida October 25, 2015. The seven-day cruise will make stops in Half Moon Cay, Bahamas (Holland America’s private island); Falmouth, Jamaica; Georgetown; Cayman Islands and Key West, Florida and will return to port in Fort Lauderdale, Florida November 1, 2015.
Jarrod Phillips and his wife Melissa are the event organizers. Phillips is a film producer, photographer, director and actor and has worked as director of business development for Salt Lake Comic Con since its first record setting event in September 2013. Melissa is a gifted painter, illustrator, and photographer. At Salt Lake Comic Con’s third event in September 2014, during actor Bruce Campbell’s panel, Phillips proposed live on stage to his then girlfriend. She said yes.
“We’re huge Comic Con fans and more specifically, pop culture fans,” explained Jarrod Phillips, ComicCruise Co-Founder and Event Producer. “After we got engaged at Salt Lake Comic Con, we got married on a cruise to the Caribbean. While we were cruising on our wedding/honeymoon the thought occurred to us that Comic Con on a cruise ship would be an amazingly fun party to throw and thus ComicCruise was born.”
ComicCruise has partnered with veteran travel agent, Carol Nilsen and her Passport to Cruising travel agency to handle cruise bookings and other travel arrangements. Carol and her staff have been working with special cruises of all kinds for over 20 years.
“We thought we had seen it all,” said Carol Nilsen, Founder of Passport to Cruising, “and then Jarrod and Melissa started explaining what they wanted to do… We didn’t even hesitate, we jumped in with both feet and are so excited to be a part of this!”
The ComicCruise will include cocktail parties with celebrities, fan meet and greets, photo opportunities, autograph signings, a cosplay contest, and an exclusive Rob Prior art auction to name a few.
“We know people love Comic Con events and the opportunity to meet, get autographs from and take pictures with their favorite celebrities and pop culture icons,” continued Phillips. “By combining Comic Con with a cruise to the Caribbean while we’re entering one of the coldest times of the year in North America, we believe we’re providing fans with a perfect combination of getting their pop culture fix while escaping the fact that ‘winter is coming.’”
Spaces are very limited as are several time-sensitive incentives for early booking. For more information about ComicCruise or to buy tickets please call Passport to Cruising at 916-687-7517 or 916-687-8855
