Milton Hershey School® reached its highest enrollment level of 2,000 students during an enrollment day event on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The school continues to expand its campus to help more children from families of low income have the opportunity to build an exceptional life.
“This is an extremely proud day for Milton Hershey School. We have reached a significant milestone that will continue the momentum of helping more students receive a better chance to lead fulfilling and productive lives,” President Pete Gurt ’85 said. “As our campus expands, we also want to take a moment to reflect on all of the lives the Hersheys have served and how their legacy lives on through the thousands of students who have benefited from the school.”
The school’s retention rate is at an all-time high—more than 90 percent for the 2013-14 school year. MHS students are given access to exceptional academic programs, state-of-the-art technology, sports, music and the arts. Students also have the opportunity to gain college scholarships, and 80 percent of 2014 graduates are pursuing higher education.
“Our students are equipped with solid academic programs and a nurturing and supportive environment to learn, grow and achieve a successful future. We are so fortunate to increase enrollment and change the lives of more children,” Gurt said.
As part of President Gurt’s expansion plans, the long-term goal is to grow to 2,300 students in the next five years to give a life full of possibilities to more children. This growth also will allow the school to hire more teachers, houseparents and additional support staff.
