It’s an honor for us to bring this recognition to our hotel and to our resort.

At the end of a box canyon in a small but legendary old mining town high in the dramatic San Juan mountains there is a resort once made famous by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. In the twenty-first century, Telluride is a first class ski resort and outdoor adventure destination. The intimate luxury boutique ski-in ski-out hotel, lumière Telluride, located in Mountain Village has just been recognized by the travel editors of U.S. News & World Report as #1 Best Hotel in Telluride, #2 in the whole state of Colorado, and #30 on the list of 172 Best Hotels in the USA. The recent acclaim for lumière Telluride suggests it’s time to get out the map.
The Telluride ski area opened in 1972 and features some of the most challenging expert ski runs in North America. For many years, all lodging was located in the original town, at the base of the ski area, on the banks of the San Miguel River. But in 1987 Mountain Village began its development up on the ski mountain, at 9500 feet above sea level. lumière in Telluride opened as a luxury boutique hotel in 2009. The ski-in ski-out property features just 11 hotel rooms and 18 luxury residences of which 3 are penthouses.
The overall design of the building enhances all the amenities expected of a luxury boutique hotel. The Little Bar by lumière features an international menu focused on local, seasonal and organic ingredients. Eammon O’Hara, formerly of Hotel Bel Air in Los Angeles, is Executive Chef. Also available are in-residence massages, Black Tie Ski Valet on property, fitness center, soaking pools and dry sauna.
It has been a season of awards for lumière Telluride, being ranked by Condé Nast Traveler as # 2 Best Hotel & Resort in the West, selected as part of Condé Nast Traveler’s Gold list 2014 and placed #17 Best Boutique Hotel in the US by Red Envelope. lumière Telluride was also awarded the Certificate of Excellence in both 2013 & 2014 by TripAdvisor, based on the quality of the reviews and the opinions of the hotel’s guests.
“We are thrilled beyond measure to receive these designations from U.S. News & World Report,” said General Manager, Clare Afman. “For the last three years especially we have all worked incredibly hard to listen to our guests, to respond to their feedback and suggestions, and to build our service level from season to season. It’s an honor for us to bring this recognition to our hotel and to our resort.”
