North Shore Eye Surgeon Lawrence Buono, MD, F.A.C. S. Named ‘Top Doctor’ in New York Metro Area

Buono, MD, F.A.C.S. has been recognized as a ‘Top Doctor’ by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. 15th edition of Top Doctors: New York Metro Area, according to eye surgeon Jeffrey Martin, medical director of North Shore Eye Care and a 6th year recipient of the Castle Connolly ‘Top Doctor’ for the New York Metro Area.

Dr. Buono is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and treats all medical and surgical conditions of the eye. He specializes in ophthalmic surgery, including cataract, glaucoma and ophthalmic plastic surgery, and has a special interest in complex cataract surgery including lens exchange and sutured intraocular lenses. Dr. Buono has extensive experience with premium intraocular lenses including Tecnis® multifocal lens, Restor® multifocal lens, Crystalens® lens and Toric lenses.
Dr. Buono is currently an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the New York Institute of Technology, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he teaches medical students and residents. Dr. Buono serves as an attending physician at Southampton Hospital, Eastern Long Island Hospital and Peconic Bay Medical Center. He is currently the chairman of surgery at Eastern Long Island Hospital and serves on the Executive Medical Committee of the hospital.

Dr. Buono is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), American College of Surgeons, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS), Medical Society of the State of New York, Suffolk County Medical Society, and the New York State Ophthalmologic Society.
Dr. Buono has authored numerous papers on neuro-ophthalmic disorders in the ophthalmic literature and serves as a reviewer for several of the major ophthalmic journals. His academic interests include ischemic optic neuropathy, giant cell arteritis, and pseudotumor cerebri. He also holds a patent for experimental work he did in the use of injectable dyes for the staining of the anterior lens capsule and vitreo-retinal interface, which aids cataract surgeons in performing safer surgery. Dr. Buono has lectured extensively in ophthalmology as both a clinical instructor at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and as an invited speaker. He actively participates at national ophthalmic meetings.
