Foundation Capital today announced the expansion of its team, with the addition of Joanne Chen and Zach Noorani as associates, and Ryan Nichols and Scott Bibaud as entrepreneurs-in-residence (EIRs).
“We are thrilled to officially welcome Joanne, Zach, Scott, and Ryan to our growing team,” said Paul Holland, general partner at Foundation Capital. “Each of these individuals has an impressive background and deep expertise working with some of the world’s top technology companies. We know they will bring their unique perspectives to the table when working with our diverse array of portfolio companies.”
Prior to Foundation Capital, Bibaud was the senior vice president and general manager for Communications and Broadcast at Altera, where he was responsible for the overall financial and marketing strategy for the company’s largest division. He also spent eleven years at Broadcom, three of them as the executive vice president and general manager for the company’s Mobile Platforms group. Previously, Bibaud held senior marketing positions at Innovent Systems, where he was the vice president of marketing, as well as at Conexant, as senior director of marketing. Bibaud holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, as well as a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
“Foundation Capital has a reputation of working with companies that are pushing the envelope and reinventing the way their industries work,” said Bibaud. “I am delighted to be joining this team and participate in shaping the future of marketing technology.”
Nichols joined Foundation Capital as an EIR in January. He has been part of four startups focused on using technology to improve how businesses work. Most recently, he founded an enterprise mobile startup, and grew a collaboration startup to a successful exit. His background includes product strategy at SAP, product management at Intuit, and consulting at McKinsey & Company. Nichols holds an MBA from Stanford and a degree in Economics from Williams College.
“As an entrepreneur, I know how valuable it is to partner with investors who’ve been through what you are going through,” said Nichols. “I love helping startups build great products and take them to market more effectively, and can’t imagine a better place than Foundation Capital to discover the next big business in enterprise software.”
Prior to joining Foundation Capital, Chen was an associate at Hyde Park Angels and Hyde Park Venture Partners in Chicago, where she sourced and evaluated early-stage investments in digital media and consumer. Previously, she was an advisor at Probitas Partners, and also advised technology executives in M&A and capital raising processes at Jefferies & Company in the Technology, Media, and Telecom Group. Chen holds an MBA from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.
“The team here at Foundation Capital is one of the very best. I continue to be impressed by their commitment to innovation, and the hands-on approach they take with each and every one of their portfolio companies. I am very much looking forward to working with the team here to continue to build game-changing companies,” said Chen.
Noorani started his career at Capital One Financial, where he worked with the company’s senior executives to incubate new businesses, acquire companies, and develop long-term strategy. During his time at Capital One, Noorani discovered the startup world and has been ensconced in it as an investor and operator ever since. He has worked at North Hill Ventures, and then at Better Finance and InsightSquared, where he helped build the companies across a variety of roles including business development and product management. Noorani holds an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and a B.S. in Economics from Stanford University.
“I have a particular interest in consumer technology. Foundation Capital’s excellent reputation with entrepreneurs and its success in helping build world-class consumer brands like Netflix speak for itself, and make it the perfect place for me to continue to grow my career,” said Noorani.
